How to spot a real discount (and a fake one) during UAE sales
6 November 2026 · By Oasis Home Market
Five quick checks that protect your money when every site is shouting 'up to 90% off'.
During big sale periods almost every banner says "up to 90% off". Some discounts are real. Others are measured from a price that was inflated just before the sale. Dubai Police and consumer authorities regularly remind shoppers to be careful, and misleading price claims can be reported. Here are five checks that take a minute each.
1. Know the normal price
Before the sale, look at what a product usually costs and note it. If the "before" price is far above what you saw last month, the saving is not real.
2. Compare across two or three stores
The same item is often sold in several places. A quick comparison shows whether the sale price is truly lower, and whether delivery is added on top.
3. Check the seller and the website
Make sure the web address is spelled correctly, the site has clear contact details, and the business is easy to reach. Be careful with links that arrive in messages or social media ads, because fake shops copy real brands during sale seasons.
4. Read delivery and returns before you pay
A low price loses its value if returns are difficult. Look for a clear return policy and realistic delivery times for the UAE.
5. Pay in a way that protects you
Cash on delivery means you pay only when the parcel arrives, which removes the risk of paying a site you cannot trust. If paying by card, use a trusted gateway and never share your card PIN or one-time passwords with anyone.
